STES “One Opportunity, One Encounter”:With one skill, you can move the world.

On March 20, “One Phase, One Session” of Vocational and Technical Education School was held for the first time by a graduate student of the College - Shen Lei, a student of the 23rd Telecommunications A6 class, shared her experience and insights with students on the topic of “A Skill that Moves the World”, on the strategy of obtaining five vocational skills certificates and preparing for the World Skills Competition. She shared her strategies, experiences and feelings about obtaining five vocational skills certificates and preparing for the World Skills Competition with the students.

Shen Lei obtained 5 certificates of vocational skills during her school years, including electrician (level 2) technician, won the first prize in the electronic technology project of the World Skills Competition Shanghai Selection Competition, and was named “Academic Innovation Person of the Year of the Second Shanghai University of Technology” in 2021, which was reported by many media, such as CCTV-2, Shanghai TV News Channel, etc., and was recognized as “Shanghai's best university in terms of academic innovation”. She has been reported by CCTV-2, Shanghai TV News Channel and other media, and has been employed by 802 Radio Research Institute of Shanghai Aerospace 8 Academy of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASTEC) as an outstanding graduate of Shanghai, and has been admitted to the  Vocational and Technical Teacher Education School of Shanghai Polytechnic University with excellent academic performance in 2023 to continue her further study.   

Shen Lei introduced how to obtain vocational skills certificates during the study period through the profession can continue to improve professional competence, encouraging students to have the courage to continue to try within the controllable cost of trial and error, and in the process of exploration to find their own strengths, so as to build on their strengths and avoid their weaknesses, and to lay a solid foundation for the future development of their careers.

With the experience of participating in the 46th Shanghai World Skills Competition Electronic Technology Program, Shen Lei introduced the overview of the World Skills Competition and the various competition modules of the Electronic Technology Program to the students. She used the four keywords of “introduction, practice, exploration and change” to discuss how to promote learning through competition, enhance core competitiveness, apply positive psychology, tailor-made teaching and set goals. She used her own experience to encourage students to actively participate in various skills competitions, acquire solid basic knowledge, maintain a positive mindset and a relaxed rhythm, and re-examine and understand the value and meaning of vocational education in the competitions.

Shen's sharing  brought peer encouragement and motivation to the students. She brought a lot of suggestions and inspiration to the graduate students on how to improve their professional skills as future VET teachers, which will have a positive impact on their professional growth and career development.
